When someone receives an unexpected call about a potential inheritance, they’re not just processing new information — they’re often processing grief, surprise, and a whole lot of questions all at once. Michelle Ortiz understands that. As an EstateCo Heir Advocate, her work begins in those first uncertain moments, and her goal is simple: make sure no one has to navigate them alone.

Here’s what she had to say about her work and what drives her.

In your own words, what do you do at EstateCo — and where does your role begin and end in a client’s journey?

I help potential heirs make sense of a process that can feel confusing and unexpected. Whether someone has questions, concerns, or just needs someone to talk it through with, I’m there to provide answers and support so they can move forward with confidence.

What part of your work matters most to you — the thing you wish every heir understood?

That our entire team is here to inform and assist. It is a privilege to help families navigate an often difficult situation.

Describe a specific moment, a call, a conversation, or a reaction from a client that has stayed with you.

When heirs open up. Talking to a stranger can alleviate grief for those holding on or help relive the fond memories.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about your work?

We are here to assist with all aspects of an estate, and a big part of that is getting those tidbits and stories of the decedent. They had lives, and we help piece them together and put them to rest.

Which of our core company values resonates most with you?

Honor Every Voice and Legacy.

If someone books a virtual appointment with you, what can they expect from that conversation?

They can expect information on the estate in question, why they have been approached by us, and how we can assist as they take the next steps.

What do you love doing when you’re not working?

I love reading, baking, and gardening.

Has EstateCo Reached Out to You?

Michelle’s perspective captures an essential aspect of EstateCo’s mission. This work isn’t just about estates — it’s about the people connected to them.

If you’ve recently received a letter, packet, or phone call from EstateCo, we encourage you to reach out. That first step, picking up the phone or scheduling a virtual appointment, doesn’t commit you to anything. It simply gives you the information you need to make a confident decision.

Our Heir Advocates are here to answer your questions honestly, explain what we found, and make sure you never feel like you’re navigating this alone. Contact us today to learn more.
